Harrow & Wealdstone station is both a London Underground (zone 5) station and a national railway station. It was the site of a major rail disaster in 1952 when 112 died and 340 were injured when a Scottish express train collided with the rear of a local train stopped at platform 4. Seconds later a northbound express hauled by two extremely powerful steam locomotives rammed the wreckage, brought down the overbridge and demolished the northern end of platforms 2 and 3.
